Developing strength in parent partnership
Here at Grove Lea Primary School, we believe that parents and staff working together in partnership is essential to a child’s individual needs being fully met. These are some of the ways in which we work with parents and carers:
Open Door Policy:
At Grove Lea Primary School, we promote an open door policy to encourage parents and carers to be involved within the school community.
In addition to parents’ consultation evenings, we promote a positive relationship between school staff and parents therefore invite parents into school to discuss their child.
In order to maintain the smooth timings of the school day, we ask that parents/carers contact the school office on 01977 615080, via email to GLP-Enquiries@ipmat.co.uk or using the messaging option on Class Dojo, to request a call back or an appointment with your child’s class teacher.
‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings:
Each class has a ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting at the end of each academic year as an opportunity for parents/carers to meet the staff that will be teaching the children in the following academic year.
Within these meetings, focus is placed on:
– The curriculum taught to this year group
– Organisation including planned Educational Visits and PE days
– Expectations
– Introduction to key members of staff
Class Workshops:
Each year at Grove Lea Primary School, 2 class workshops are held in every year group. These have proved to be a huge success with staff, children and parents and are thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Teachers plan these workshops around the arts / sciences / sports and wider curriculum and children give a presentation around these subjects.
Events are planned in advance and are shared on our school newsletter with the dates for your diary.
Achievement Assemblies:
Friday afternoons are very special at Grove Lea Primary School, as we hold an assembly to recognise all the children’s hard work throughout the week in a dedicated Praising Assembly.
Within this assembly, we celebrate the children who receive awards linked to one of the 4 C’s, Class Dojo winners, good attendance and celebrate the hard work of our children in school.
At the end of the term, we invite parents, carers and family members of our award winners to the assembly to celebrate these great achievements and look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces celebrate our wonderful children!
Parent Consultation meetings:
Parent consultation meetings are held in the Autumn and Spring term at Grove Lea Primary Academy. Parent meetings are a great opportunity for class teachers to share information about how your child is progressing at school, their development and targets in order to achieve their full potential.
We strongly encourage all parents/carers to attend these meetings in order to raise the importance of schooling to children and to allow parents/carers to understand how to best support children whilst at home.
Teachers send out individual child’s school reports at the end of the Summer term ready for the children to transition to their next stage of education.
PTA:
At Grove Lea Primary School, we have a group of volunteers that support the school in planning, organising and delivering events in order to raise engagement and enjoyment of community spirit and fundraise to further enhance our school.
The school are always keen to involve new members so please contact the school office to if you are interested in becoming a part of this.
Wakefield Families Together
Wakefield Families Together brings services together, so that it’s easier for you to find and access the support you need, at the earliest opportunity.
We want children, young people, and families to tell us they are happy, healthy, and safe. Wakefield Families Together are about working on your behalf so that if you have a concern about your child or family member, you only need to have one conversation with us, and we can direct you to the right support. You can access this support through your child’s school, family hub, or in the local community.
To help us localise how we work with families across the Wakefield district, we have grouped our teams and partner organisations into six community ‘cluster’ areas, with nine family hubs and three Youth Hubs. Everyone needs help and support at some point in their life. So, when you do and find it hard to deal with a difficult situation, or have worries around family relationships, behaviour, school attendance, emotional and mental health, domestic abuse, parental conflict, housing issues, or employment and debt problems, Family Hubs can help direct to the right people and services.
Sometimes the concerns you have may need a group of professionals to come together to build a package of support with you and other family members so that we have the right expertise to help the whole family.
